"Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self."
Everyone has personal reasons for beginning a yoga practice, whether for athletic improvement, trauma healing, improving flexibility, or the need to reduce stress. Perhaps skeptical initially, much to their surprise, a steady yoga practice improves every aspect of one's life. Yoga, once considered cultish, now, has millions of students who are avid practitioners.
My Teaching Philosophy:
Yoga teaches us to honor the body as it is. Because the body changes from one minute to the next, using props, offering adjustments, and flexible instruction allows you to step into a posture where you are at that moment. I teach yoga postures and core development, breathwork, and meditation in ways that are transferable from the mat into the life of my students.
Anatomy of a class:
Each class varies in style and includes a variety of sequential experiences leading to poses. You may find yourself rolling out your feet with tennis balls, using the wall as a prop, or reaching to the sky with your fingertips in plank.
At the beginning of each class, you will experience centering exercises that allow you to put the day behind you so you can focus on your needs and intentions for attending yoga, and concludes with mindful meditation or a guided journey. Come to class.
I started practicing yoga in the 1980s and had a frivolous an on and off approach for many years. After committing to a yoga practice in the 2000s, I decided to take 200-hour teacher training at the Himalayan Institute: Center for Yoga and Meditation to improve my understanding and overall competency.
As a Certified Hatha Yoga and Meditation instructor, my specialty is working with emerging yogis, teaching Hatha 1 classes, and facilitating private sessions. I also integrate yoga, breathwork, and meditation in my energy psychology professional work in Pittsburgh with collegiate and professional athletes.
Every Wednesday, 10 - 11:00 am
